Why Are Women So Filthy?

I once knew a woman who was so disgusted at the microbe-laden mayhem of the women's washrooms at a local bar she used to post guards at the door of the men's facilities, wait until it was empty, and go in to do her thing in the relatively pristine environment of the men's cubicles.

The relative sloppiness of women's bathroom hygiene compared to men's is paralleled in my own home. The one toilet used exclusively by the four females in my house is awash in a sea of cosmetic products, spilled hair dyes, Kotex wrappers and at least three half-used toothpaste tubes per person. The boy's toilet, on the other hand, is much cleaner save for the fresh toilet paper rolls which never find their way onto the dispenser.

The next time you are staying at a hotel and meet a housekeeper, ask her who generally leaves the cleaner rooms: men or women? If you manage to get an answer rather than an uncomfortable smile at such a strange question the response will invariably be "men".

Conventional wisdom has it that men are slobs, and I do admit that females generally place a much higher premium on neatness when it comes to personal appearance. But in accomplishing this, women leave in their wake a trail of cast-off flotsam and jetsam especially in public places which they don't have to personally clean up afterwards.

So what's the explanation for this?

Awww man - yet another indication of my weirdness! We have 2 bathrooms, and for sanity's sake I long ago designated one "Woman" (as I'm the lone woman in the family, other than the one dog) and the other "Men". And I'm not being blind or prejudiced when I say that Royalty could walk into mine at any given time, but would have to have nerves of steal and be wearing a gas mask to go into the "Men's" bathroom in my house!

Course the other weirdness about me is that I don't wear makeup or use hair products (other than shampoo), either! Sigh. Time for a shrink??

Nanuk, you went someplace you just shouldn't have! You're forgetting how many more things a woman needs to keep herself properly groomed and appealing to you men. And OH YEAH, you men are just freakin' clean, LOL! Remember, I had a husband once and he was a disgusting pig!

Not ALL women are like that, thank you very much!

I odn;t even want to know why that whatever it is is stuck to the bottom of her waste-basket, but I ain't reachin' in to find out.

My bathroom actually tends to be a bit messier becasue it is the Yukon lair. He is confined to bathroom (I have armored the door with sheet metal) so he won't eat the house while we are gone. He likes to dig so his fur is impregnated with dirt and he literally leaves a ring around the entire abthroom!

Not true in my experience. Whenever I go into either of my bathrooms after my other half has been in there, I wonder how so much water could be splashed around. As for the rubbish.... empty contact lense pods, empty deodorant aerosols etc etc etc...
Men's public loos also stink from outside the door.

Eternally Curious: Perhaps it's a function of having 3 teenage girls at home, but their washroom is really sloppy.

Nunya: Fools rush in where angels fear to tread, and I guess I'm guilty of foolish generalizations. Dangerous that when talking of the differences between the sexes. But why not ask the housekeeper next time you stay at a hotel which gender keeps the less messy hotel room, and let me know.

TPK: so is Yukon a male or female ;-)

Faff: I guess mileage does vary concerning the thrust of my argument. Maybe it's the state of the plumbing in centuries old pubs in the UK. I notice that the bogs in older buildings in Canada also have a particular non-inviting stench. Except for the marble ones, of course.

I have never left moustache clippings on the sink, creosote on the shower walls or jock staps on the bathoom floor. I have never "missed" when using the toilet. monopolized the bathroom while "reading" girlie magazines or failed to clean a bathroom during an entire tenancy. I have yet to meet a womwn guilty of these crimes. Women may commit more miss-demeanors however men commit more fellow-nies.

Fuff: my apologies for the typo!

Fairscape: LOL. Strange, though, the many male readers of this blog have been silent in this debate (with the exception of Phosgene) and I feel quite deserted by my fellow men. C'mon, guys, a little support for the team if you please.

Nanuk, I don't need to ask any stinkin' housekeepers! I am very neat and orderly when I stay at any hotel because I don't want them having to go out of their way for me. I'm very considerate and shit!

It doesn't fit my experience either. I have never left moustache clippings all over the sink and countertop, wet towels on the floor and I have never, ever peed on the floor. Or the wall. Unlike a certain ex-husband who shall remain nameless.

But there are slobs in both genders.

Women may have more stuff, and their bathrooms may be cluttered, and while they may not be neater, tend to be cleaner. My bathroom never looks like I was bathing monkeys. Although, admittedly, on rare occasion there is a make-up explosion.
